Help bring festive cheer to care home residents

PUBLISHED: 1 December 2021

Colchester Borough Council are working in partnership with FANS Network and Tesco to spread festive joy to local care home residents again this Christmas.

Following the project’s huge success last year, the council and Fans Network are urging people to help support this special community project again, which is working to ensure care home residents receive a personalised Christmas card.

From 1 December 2021, special post boxes will be located at the front of Tesco Highwoods and Tesco Hythe. All people need to do is pick a name from the list, then pop a card addressed to them in the box. There is no need for a stamp, the cards will be forwarded on by the project team.

Councillor Beverley Oxford, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “Following on from its huge success last year, we would really like it if people could help us spread some festive spirit to residents in Colchester care homes again. All you have to do is write a special message in a card to one of the names on the list. This small action would really mean a huge amount to the person receiving it.

“2021 has been another challenging year for care homes, this community project aims to put a smile on the faces of some of our residents who need it most. We are proud to be working in partnership with FANS Network and Tesco on this community project.”

Tony, from the FANS Network, added: “It’s so important that, as a community, we stay connected to our care homes. These people are our most cherished and important generation, and just the smallest thing, like sending a Christmas card, will make the biggest difference.”

Nine primary schools have also joined up to take part in the project, giving pupils the opportunity to brighten up the day of care home residents also.

The deadline for dropping off cards into the post box is Monday 16 December 2021.
